Panel from a Woman’s Ceremonial Skirt
Miao People, Guizhou Province, China
20th century
49.5 x 20.75 inches (126 x 53 cm)
Cotton panels are dyed with indigo and then sewn together before pleating. A thick indigo paste is applied on the fabric which is later glazed with egg white.
The surface cracks with use giving it a unique highly reflective and metallic appearance.
Professionally mounted on a wood stretcher, ready for display. A beautiful example of minimalist art from a minority people of South West China.
