Raffia palm fiber, applique, embroidery

This finely executed and rare style of ceremonial skirt is assembled from long bands, each composed of small, individually appliquéd raffia panels. Each panel is a brilliant composition, in balance with every other element, and unfolding as a lyrical whole within its orange frame.
