Anthropomorphic Ceramic (Butter Churner)
Berber people, Morocco
Early 20th century
This large ceramic, probably a butter churner, is evocative of a female form and painted with talismanic designs associated with women. Lines of "stitching" and patina also seem to suggest a container made of animal hide, perhaps the original model for the pot.
